Just watched Armadillo, and I thought I would recommend it to you guys.
Armadillo is a documentary where two guys followed a danish platoon from preparation all the way to Afghanistan and back to Denmark over a 6 month period. It shows all the sides of army life you never otherwise see. Including boredom, brotherhood and the at times immature behavior some soldiers are capable of.
It shows them going on endless boring patrols, getting hit by IED's, killing Taleban via airborne drones and artillery, and finally taking fire and killing Taleban members in close combat. In the close combat situation you see two danish troops recieving first aid after having been shot in shoulder and leg. And their facial expressions kinda say it all. And closeups of Taleban members one of which took a handgrenade to the head.
While watching it I couldn't help but think it was filmed almost like a hollywood movie. It is absolutely superbly filmed, and yet none of it is staged. And it really gives a good insight into the troops minds and daily struggles in a war that does not make a lot of sense to them.
I highly recommend you download and watch this one with subtitles. Especially those of you who have considered enlisting. It is by far the best embedded war documentary I have seen.
