A bit of rage and a note not to ever download ppt viewer.

So I was doing a roleplaying game with this college thursday.. And I couldnt connect to their wireless (it sorta half logged on and then didnt work) and had to use cable. No biggie.
I then had to show a powerpoint presentation. And it behaved screwey in libreoffice so I downloaded ppt viewer. Again routine stuff.
The viewer however did not work at all. It simply didnt open the files.. it just did nothing. So we had to make do without any of the planned tools and without being able to remote connect into the server as needed. So we had to guide a guy over the phone to edit the gamefiles and database on the fly while trying to run a half live, half digital-rpg with 115 students. We managed, but it wasnt easy.

I then came home slept for a few hours after a very tough day. And then decided I wanted to go online. However my puter wouldnt connect to the wifi at home.
I decided not to bother and did some other stuff instead. Now today I had time and decided to work out why I couldnt connect.
Symptoms were as follows. It authed the network and approved and then said "failed to connect" with no details. Weird. So I tried resetting router, removing network from windows and setting up from scratch etc. And none of it worked. Entering wrong passphrase/network code yielded a different error. So I knew the wireless network worked, I knew it connected and authed. But windows simply cut it off AFTER authing and setting everything up. Weird.. I couldnt find anything on the internet about it so I ended up giving up.

Bored I started to do some maintenance on the puter. Deleting software I didnt need etc. And guess what. When I uninstalled ppt viewer the network suddenly connected!

NOW WTF KIND OF SHIT SOFTWARE IS THAT! It has to do only one thing. It failed at doing that one thing. And in the process it breaks vital parts of windows, but with no error or warning so you can't see what has happened.
Way to go microsoft. I used to hate you for being a money hoarding son of a motherfucking greedy dick. Now I hate you for being downright disruptive and destructive to your own products and customers. Fuck you!

Lesson to the rest of you. If you are in a burning building and you have the choice of letting microsoft save you, or jump out the window and hope someone catches you by random accident. Jump! Microsoft will blind you, and then lead you into a dead end room carrying a mug with water (for firefighting things you cant see) and lock the door and run away.
Grrrrrr. Thank you for listening.

Hail the empire.

Always trust Top Gear to illustrate incompetence and idiocy in a creative manner :-)
